|D As I've been putting this off for far too long, and something has to be said.... And because Bre insisted....
Yet at the same time, I'm feeling creative. So...
This is Ace. He's a Cooltrainer. I'll be using him to help me explain what I mean.
Q. What IS a Trainer Class?
As you may know, two types of trainers are allowed on the site...
Canons and Trainer Classes.
Canons are, basically, anybody in the series with their own custom sprite and name. They may also appear periodically throughout the game, be a gym leader, be in the anime, ect, ect. You get the idea.
"Trainer Classes" are basically everyone else. The sprites of random trainers you kick the asses of purely for money to get stronger.
However, keep in mind, that while they could be close, Trainer Classes are NOT OCs. For example...
Have you EVER seen a chick with a large afro Miror B that was referred to as a Bug Catcher ANYWHERE in the games and/or Anime? No? I thought not. This is an OC.
However, if you look at the Cooltrainer page on Bulbapedia, you'll notice that Ace here has a jacket resembling vast majority of the male cool trainers, and a similar hairstyle to the Colosseum Cooltrainers.
As far as Trainer Classes go, you can pick and chose from the existing sprites, but all in all, you have to go with the norm. So, if we changed up our afro'd Bug Catcher here...
See? Now doesn't that look familiar? This would be a Cliche Bug Catcher (Well, except I messed up on the shirt, but I lacked a reference at the time). Like a canon, you have to keep with the original design, or it's just not... well, canon.
If you didn't get the point earlier, here's another example, assisted by Dragon.
Clearly, that is not a Super Nerd.
On that note, try to keep the personality in line as well.
No self respecting Cooltrainer would be a sparkly-eyed loser. Rather...
Cocky yet informative. Far more plausible, yes?
Class dismissed. (Ha ha! ~Ed.)
Q. But Banette, that's jerklike. How do I customize my Trainer Class if I have to stick strictly to the game's personality and design?
Indeed, we do try to keep things canon and lovely, though we DO allow shit to be slipped under the radar.
While Trainer Classes have one-word set personalities, this only means there's a lot more room for development.
For example... Ace is somewhat forced to be cocky yet not all talk. Though what else is to him?
I've given him a whip (which he affectionately calls Katrina), and made his favorite food chocolate (though that's not shown).
Yet at the same time, I've managed to remain perfectly canon. We don't know the smaller details about his character, so there's room for creativity. This includes history and other aspects of his personality to a mild extent.
So, aside from the fact that there can't be more than one of each type of Trainer Class (Ex. One Male Cool Trainer, One Female Cool Trainer, and no more. There actually has to be a male/female difference though- no female bug catchers and so on)...
